[LIND:]Milan - Robert C. Coon, 89, of Milan and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, December 18, 2011 at his home.

Robert was a hard working, good hearted and honorable man. For many years, he worked in construction with Local 1000 out of Poughkeepsie. Previously he also worked for GLF in Red Hook, at the Chapman Estate and Montgomery Place.

He was an avid gardener, fisherman and hunter. He took great enjoyment from his yearly fishing trip with his friends to Canada.

Robert was a member and Elder of Pine Plains Presbyterian Church and a life member of Red Hook Post #7765, VFW.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Robert was born on May 4, 1922, in Barrytown, NY; he was the son of the late Reuben and Ada (Lown) Coon.

Robert was predeceased by his first wife; Mamie Moore Coon on January 8th, 1955 and his second wife, Dorothy Moore Coon on October 24, 2002.

He is survived by two daughters; Sheila Meisner of Milan, and Cheryl & her husband Dan O'Leary of Hyde Park, two step daughters; Gloria Doyle of Pine Plains, and Barbara Wesley of Red Hook, three grandchildren; Lisa Meisner, Ryan and Erin O'Leary, a step daughter in law; Augusta Ingleson, several step grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wives, he was predeceased by a step son; Charles Ingleson, and thirteen siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Red Hook. The Rev. Carol Miller will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from 6 to 9 pm. Red Hook VFW will conduct services at 7 pm.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Hospice -especially Sylvia, Suzanne & Tom.

Memorial donations may be made in Robert's memory to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society, 125 Humane Society Road, Hudson, NY 12534, Hospice Foundation, Inc., 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook, NY.
