Part of W.W. Bowyer’s personal property was sold at public auction on the 14th inst; the sale being limited to those effects of shop, barn & farm utensils not needed in the actual running of a meat market. This sale attracted a large crowd from all parts of the country. An air of expectation prevailed about Chestertown Village before the sale, which was ably conducted by John Quinlan. Opinions differ as to whether prices showed a fair return for the value given. Hon. W. R. Waddell of North Creek, secured the meat distributing wagon, a light, also heavy delivery wagon. A pair of black horses was sold singly, one to George Ellsworth at $76, and its mate to Squire Davis of Horicon for $75.00. 38 sheep and lambs of mixed native and cross breeds, of varying quality, were sold to C. Baker of Horicon, at $4.60 each. Herbert Cooper, of the Rock school house neighborhood, bought the well known buckboard for $20. Eugene Murphy secured a two seated open depot wagon for $12. A set of double light harness were purchased by James Younes of So. Horicon. A thoroughbred Poland china boar was sold to McPhillips brothers at $17.50. Four sows, three quarters pure bred, Poland china all heavy were sold to Arthur Perry.

Supervisor H. S. Downs and Fred Vetter, at prices ranging from $29.50 to $32.50, purchased a turkey gobbler and various articles of harness. Farm implements and a partly Jersey heifer were sold to David Hardy now of Riparius. Mr. Hardy formerly lived in New York bur recently bought the Bump farm. The smaller and less valuable effects sold promptly and at firm prices. Altogether the sale was a most interesting event and the gathering seemed more as a general afternoon meet on the midway during the Pottersville Fair week.
